i got a standard mk3 1.6 CL. i would really like to put a suttle spoiler on it, maybe get it lowered since i love that looks, get some of those twin head lights and a tidy exhaust.

but.............i'm thinking i will look like a pratt since its not really a sport pedigree car and doesnt pack that much of a punch lol. and i personally cant stand those chavs in done up corsa's and fear i will look like this

the only reason i want to do this is cos im 18, and i won't get insured on a gti unfortunatley

if it was me......

i'd slam it, put some decent wheels on it, de-badge, clean the f**k out of it, err thats about it! wheels and suspension will be able to be sold on when the time comes, or could be transferred onto a gti when you can afford it. the key to not looking chavvy is often what you dont do, as opposed to what you do. spoiler = no no for a start!

the rest of it sounds fun my dad has given me some vintage BBS alloys from his old mk2 gti they look tidy.

go for the GTI spoiler ... they are pretty subtle

Yeah, go for subtle mods and you should be ok - as long as you don't have arches sticking out 3ft either said and a spoiler that hits bridges as you drive under you should be fine!

Just look at each mod before you buy it and think "does this look chavy and sh!t?" sounds like you have fairly good taste and can tell a good mod from a bad one - and anyway, surely the point of modding your car is to have it the way you wany anyway, not anyone else. Although saying that avoid those twin headlights IMO, and avoid fads!

just clean it up. A nice set of wheels and a decent drop? perhaps some new lights/indicators to freshen up the front? like joe says the trick is not to over do it. Less is more... besides, spoilers? soooo last season

you can go for show! who needs the go (only gets you grief of the old bill) - like joe says - get some nice wheels (they make a car) get it decked and clean the bodywork up/colour code it! oh, then get some gti seats
