B Pillar wind rush noise?

Hi, new to the forum and the very happy owner of a blue Golf Mkv GTI DSG 5 door 05 plate, 23k on the clock with all the kit (minus leather).

I have one tiny niggle. I have owned loads of different cars, bmw's, mercs, ford, vauxhalls, fiats, loads of vw's and hondas and all have been fairly quite on the motorways at 75-80mph re wind noise, however my golf has more than a fair share of wind noise/wind rushing past the B pillar that makes it sound as if wind is getting in. I have taklen back to the stealers twice only to be told that this is a usual golf problem with no fix? Pain in the butt as this is really annoying and I really like the car. No wind is getting in I'm sure of that and all the seals look top notch.

I have had a quick search albeit nothing has come up like this.

So, daft question I know (and yes I do realise that I will get wind noise at 80mph) but how noisy are your golfs at that speed and do you get any sort of wind rush noise. Also the windier the day the worse the noise?

Any comments would be welcome.

I had the same problem with my MKV GTTDI and never bottomed it. My new ED30 doesn't have this problem though. I have heard that the glued side of the seal sometimes has ungled bits and the seal hums as it vibrates against the metal it should be glued to.

Hurdy, thanks for your response although this is definitely a wind noise rather than a vibration type noise.

I suppose its knowing how much wind noise people experience from side of car around b pillar while travelling at about 80mph?

Sounds like the doors not hung properly and door seals not fully compressing, take it to VW's

Phil, I have taken to VW and they claim this is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. I am taking to another dealer soon for second apinion. Do you not get any noise at all at 80 mph along the side of the car around by the b pillar? Thanks T

no none at all, if they cant sort it, just run it to any body shop and they will have a look for a 2nd opinion

Will give the stealers one last go, such a shame as it really spoils an otherwise fantastic car. I think I'll post for a second opinion on the forum and go for a test drive with another gti owner (anyone living near Bournemouth). Thanks ever so much for your time though. T

Never noticed this before but been out today and given the old girl a good blast

Nothing from B pillar but some slight wind noise from the offside door mirror - not too obtrusive, just normal I guess.

And there was I, thinking that it was just you that wasn't hung properly - with your pimply knobs!

Door seal wind noise is a common prob, and the stealers are aware of the propper fix.  I had a new drivers door seal on mine, after I complained about wind noise - which fixed it.
