Tornado red (pink!)
« on: 29 May 2007, 21:48 »
Hello there I was just wondering if anyone knows of a cheap way to get my tornado pink 16v paint back to it's former glory. I've just spent nearly a week of evenings t-cutting it and can see it starting to fade already   I've heard people talk about getting their faded cars 'mopped' but no idea what this is. I dont mind spending a little bit on it but there is no way i can afford a respray.

Well mine has been sat in open air stood for a year now. It hasn't gone pink, I used Meguiers scratch x to remove any oxidation, then megs 3 step deep crystal polish (paint cleaner, polish then carnuba wax) then some autoglym sealant then harley carnuba proper wax. (or megs NXT)

This has left it gleaming like new without any further intervention, its well and truly protected. Not cheap for all this stuff but halfords has an offer (3 for 2) on this stuff at the moment, will cost you about £40 for the lot.

Mine is now virtually pink all over with lots of white patches ! The t-cut has brought it back to life but there's no way i could go through that every week.

If you can get Your hands on a buffer and use some 3M compond on the buffer head, after buffing wipe down and then  use 3M hand-glaze to seal the paint when hand-glazing just do one part at a time ( rub some into the wing and then rub off with a clean cloth) get some mutton cloth this works best won't scratch the car. After doing this the colour should come up also be carefull using the buffer that you dont go to hard and burn through the paint.
then when washing your car dont use steam cleaners with the temp. turned to high.

TBH mine is pretty hanging (dents, scratches etc) so i doubt i'll be investing in all that... although i do have t-cut and red turtle wax...
