Vdub CAMPER..Is it worth the hassle

Have the chance of getting a camper for £0, yep diddly squat, FREE, but it needs a full rebuild.
The camper hasn't moved for at least 5 maybe 6 years and is currently being used as a SHED.
The father in law was given it many moons ago by its owner and the owner wanted to see it after it was rebuilt. Me and the wife wanted it but agreed to let her nephew have ago as it meant moving it from Surrey to Shropshire and we didn;t have a trailer.
The camper was parked up at her nephews house and hasn't moved since as he decided to goto uni, so now where thinking of having a go with it, a new toy to play with.
Dont know much about it other than its a 1973 air cooled twin carb camper.
Is it worth the hassle of a full rebuild bearing in mind that from looking at it, it will need extensive panel replacement (or pieces welded to suit) and unfortunately i cant weld (well i can but haven't used MIG before i mainly use oxy-acetylene).
What price do these go for and is there any sites i can use for ideas tips etc?

All depends on how bad the rot is? Could cost you thousands, get someone to look at it before you dive in.

Mig welding is easy, if you can use oxy acetylene then you can do it!

Go for it, its worth a try.

Definately worth it, so long as you make a restoration thread for us all to see

As you can see it will want quite a bit of work doing to it. These pictures where taken a few years ago so it possibly worse than these show.

Does anyone klnow if a camper will fit in a garage as this is the only place i have to put it if i decide togo ahead with this project?

Thanks for this, just been on the site and i now know that its a type 2 bay camper, still doesn't mean anything to me but its a start!
