alarm permanantly armed
« on: 20 May 2007, 19:45 »
hi....today i was installing an amplifier in my 1.8 golf driver. i disconnected the battery an hookep up the power cable for the amp, but after connecting the battery back up, my alarm seems to be constanly armed....if i open a door or the bonnet then the alarm will go off. locking and unlocking the car has no effect...also what i presume is the alarm light in the car (small red led) is permantly on.....i dont have much experience with golfs and so am at a loss what to do. everything worked fine before disconnecting and connecing the battery....hopefully someone can shed some light on this?? thanks in advance, any help is appreciated as i cant start or drive my car because of this!

I have experienced similar problems with the alarm on my mk3 16v. I reset the alarm by using the small key into the alram unit under the bonnet, mine was next to the battery. that seemed to work. good luck with it - i know how annoying it is!!!!

i think he means the alarm overide key, did you get the alarm installed or was it on the car when you bought it.

it was already in the car, factory fitted. pretty sure i dont have an overide key.....the red led in the car is constanly on, not flashing like when normally alarmed...how is the alarm normally switched off...unlocking the car with the key has no effect  any ideas? anyone had this before?

does yours not have a remote - mine does not turn off with the key either.
Also, you should have got at least one little key with the car keys, it looks a bit like a key for a bike lock if that helps.

okay think i may have fixed it...thought i'd say how incase anyone else has this problem at somepoint......used the same technique as i mentioned above but when re-connecting the negative i held the bonnet switch in..i think this re-set the alarm..well it solved the problem anyway lol
