RR what is the ride like with the eibachs on compared to standard? also how much extra did they lower the car? cheers al
....The differences are subtle in 'everyday' driving but much more noticeable if 'making progress' through the twisties and roundabouts; Also under very hard braking (not so often!). Having driven another GTI with the same suspension setup back-to-back over the same chosen mixture of roads - rough and smooth surfaces, I had no difficulty deciding to mod the whole suspension in one go.
So, apart from the Eibach ARBs, I have KoniFSD shocks with Eibach Pro-Kit springs. For the KoniFSD's to work properly it's important to fit the appropriate springs but there are several choices, including leaving OEM I think. The KoniFSD's just take the 'sharp' edge off but it all remains firm. The ARB's reduce body roll and so keep the car feeling more flatly planted. They are the same ARB's as fitted to the Jetta/Passat and significantly heavier in weight than the standard ones. I got the components from AwesomeGTI and Ray West advised and fitted.
The setup only lowers the car 5-10mm which in some ways is disappointing from an appearance point of view but is more practical (especially with my subsequently fitted aftermarket front splitter). The photo doesn't accurately show the lowered difference from the standard GTI alongside but gives an impression. I'll try and park with a photo comparison in mind next time.
I hope this helps [on the slippery slope of modding!],
Robin
