Tesco 99 is the best and proven aswell over shell v-power.Your local tesco may only do 97 octane as most of the smaller tesco outlets only do that grade, if so , get the V-power but you will pay over the odds for it, (as long as tesco dont balls up like recently), hope you finally pick up the beauty today mate, let us have some pics s.a.p.

Where did you get that one from?!  Shell and BP Ultimate have been consistently rated as better in tests that I have read in Evo and Car Magazine... plus contributors to this forum have also  consistently praised Shell V-Power and felt that it was much better than Tesco 99... the only exception it seems is you.

illyan, read teutonic Tamers thread in an earlier post my friend before singling me out

Please read the very start and useful link from Wantmygti

Steve, read this, from the archives.......... im not the only one, far far from it

-------Oh dear, that is a very "generalised" statement.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tesco 99 Super Unleaded is not "any old petrol", which the likes of Asda, Sainsburys and Morrisons use.  The Tesco 99 is supplied by an independently audited company, Greenergy.  It is the official fuel of the British Rally Championship.  Furthermore, it has been PROVEN, in independent tests, to be considerably better than the now obsolete Shell Optimax, AND the current BP Ultimate.

I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone filling up with standard unleaded at Asda, and the like - but we are specifically talking about a high octane super unleaded - which the Mk5 GTI should use all the time!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

if you read the 1st 2 pages of this thread, you will see quite clearly im not the only one, and your comment about bp being better fuel, plz read again pages 1 and 2

Steve theres nowt wrong with tesco's 99 stuff, like i been saying, shells fuel is refined the same process as shell fuel,(again read the post prior) with their own additives which realistically dont make sh!te difference in performance and "care"of your engine.

Hmm.... fair point Phil.  I've not read that post before and I'm sure as hell not going to argue the toss with Teutonic - he might get quite worked up    But I have read the opposite too in Evo and Car magazine as well as from plenty of guys on this forum who have tried both - my car always got Shell V-Power and never anything else so I can't really comment from personel experience.  I'll give it a try when I get my Edition 30 in october.

Think that was a sort of an apology Phil from Illyun there !

Run my Edition 30 on Tesco 99 all the time now, it comes from a different refinery to their other fuel and was'nt hit by the last fuel scare.

The other benefit with Tesco's at the moment is that you get a voucher for 5p a litre off if you spend £50 in store.

Just wish my missus would split her weekly shop in 2 - then we could have 2 vouchers per week.

....Two very strong reasons to drive past Tesco stations without stopping. Not only is V-Power more consistent but has the additives. Each to their own though of course .

Tesco themselves didn't "balls up" their own fuels.  The contamination also affected some other "premium" fuel stations too, and I think some Shell garages were affected.  The actuall contaminent was silica - ie, sand!

Also, don't forget the catastrophic debacle of the "Formula Shell" in the 1980s/early 90s - which was proven to cause valve seat recession.  They were found gulty in the high court, appealed, and lost the appeal - yet they still denied it was their fuel.  :nerd:

Anyway, Tesco 99 probably has a better additives package than V-Power.

Where did you get you data from, stating V-Power was more consistent?

I'm really peee'd off that nowhere north of Yorkshire, and south of the Scottish borders has the fuel...

Clearly they must think we can only survive on the 97 octane stuff... BOOOOO!

They must think that nobody north of Yorkshire has cars that need the good stuff....  Shame be upon them!

You wanna go to Italy then.  Not only are the drivers absolutely fcuking mental, and downright suicidal, you are lucky if you can get 95 RON.  Many places still only sell 91 RON - and that made my RS4 run like a bag of nails!   Even with the so-called tie between Ferrari and Shell, the vast majority of Shell stations didn't sell V-Power.

<fcukin third world country>

Do you happen to have any links for the fuel tests?

Somone on another forum posted something similar from Fifth Gear - and when I studied the "data" - it was utterly useless, quite a joke really.
