Another update, me and vdubben today replaced my whole aum engine loom for s3 APY loom and I am going for complete S3 APY management. The advantages of this are that I dont now have to go for a custom AUM map but also the AUm ecu's are prone to throw up more fault codes and to put it plainly the s3 management doesnt actually give a foobar, lol.

Spoke to BNB today and he has all the bits I need to get the car up and running; injectors, 3" maf, APY ecu and hitachi coilpacks. So im going to pick those bits up tomorrow and trade some my remapped ECU and other bits and get this beast running!

Got some pics il upload them when I get back to a pc with a dongle!

right got the pictures, got the 3" maf, and 3 ecu's to try out, unfortunatly one of the ECU's was a BAM one and the other 2 were for AMK S3's (which are pre 2000). The problem with this is that my keys and clocks are 2001 and therefore we cannot add the Ecu so it'l run. We temporarily used an ARZ ECU to get the car started and running. Just need to pick up the hitachi coilpacks, APY ECU and 210 injectors and then she'l be driveable! Below are the pics:

S3 loom:

AUM loom out:

S3 loom going in:

Had to modify the wiring for the throttle body as the s3 ones are on the right hand side and the mk4 ones are on the left:

s3 ECU's and 3" maf:

The car running - I wish the sound quality is better, the flutter goes on for about twice as long as it did with the KO3s, the decat sounds brilliant too!

Golf with the Ko4 running - click here

Going to pick up the rest of the bits today. We did a full vagcom on the car and there are no fault codes, it just doesnt deliver the power properly due to the injectors being the 150 models

:D

Right a little update for you all. I had a problem with the car cutting out once we had it running properly, this was because the selector in wrong and everytime I thought I was selecting 1st I was actually selecting 3rd. So we sorted that out on friday just gone and changed my suspension over for a set of FK coilovers taken from my mates donor car which you'l see in the pics later. Had a bit of a manic day on saturday trying to get the car ready for inters. After getting it running and taking it out for a spin, I noticed that I had a bit of a problem with my left wheel and suspected my wishbone might be a bit tired as this has never been changed in the whole 4 years I have owned the car so I set about doing that while everybody else was doing their prep work for the show, vdubben sprayed his car and everybody else just did last minute bits:

Off came the wishbone:

As you can see the rubber is pretty buggered on the wishbone as I thought!

So I went to our donor mk4 and took the wishbone off that - sweet!

Went back and started to fit it - this is the first one I have done by myself may I add B)

Back on and all sorted now I had to go about replacing some oil breather pipes on the car:

Sorted it then went for a drive and the system was airlocked as you can see by the puddle of water coming out from underneath my car and got an overheating problem because of this and because my thermostat was broken :( So we took it out and I got another one at International on sunday for 12 a 70 degree one too so it'l run cooler which is better for me as I got a big front mount blocking my rad and taking allt he air - lol!

We then went to wash the cars for inters at 11pm at night - lol!

Went for a big drive that night to make sure the car was fine, ignoring the tempreture fluctuations it drove brilliantly. Got up early for inters (4am) and went to the petrol station with a few of the boys to fill up:

She was hot and had lost alot of water so I bought some anti freeze and filled her up, stupid me as this put another air lock in the system, drove it for about fiften minutes and then had to leave her at a petrol station as she wouldnt have made the journey and didnt want to make everybody wait for me.

When I came back from inters I got her home changed the thermostat and got rid of the air lock and she is perfect again! So anybody at Brands hatch tomorrow come and say hi!

Right sorted a few bits out this weekend so I could pop down to the VW Expo Show at Hop Farm. Changed over some gaskets for the exhaust, put a new temp sensor in her and also cut down the cold air feed pipe and put that in which makes the bay look a bit meaner in my opinion.

With Cold Air Feed Pipe In:

Lowered her at the front slightly too since putting on the FK Highsports which I got for free - touch!

At The VW Expo:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got a pic I would just rather have a replica bumer for that, got a few more snaps of the motor yesterday

Right got an update finally, seems like the project was a bit stagnant so I pulled my socks up and have done a few bits! After seeing the floor Sammy built in his mk4, I deceided I wanted to loose the rear seats in mine too and we went about building a fake floor with my sounds built into it. Havent got any pics of the build, only as it stands at the moment, it still needs to be leathered, 6x9's need to be put in the hinged selves, sub needs to be dropped into the floor and powercap needs to be mounted into the floor too, as it looks atm:

The 6x9's will be cut into this floor which is hinged which allows me to store bits underneath, get to the wires and also aim the 6x9's at people looking into the boot at shows ;)

Sammy and Danny did me a favour whilst I started to repolish the bay and took out my washer bottle and screen wash tank and sprayed them black for me with heatproof paint so it just tidied up the bay a bit, I then went out bought some red paint and did my caps red and my coilpacks the same black as the car. I did do the coilpacks red initially but it was just overkill to be honest!

After that I had to do was paint my calipers red as they were blue and didnt go with my red and black colour scheme at all:

Next thing I had to do was try and sort out my paintwork as it looked tired and had a few chips, I invested in some Meguiars ScratchX, black turtle wax with chipstick (which was actually really good), some Meguiars Tech Wax and some speed detailer. Went over the car for ages and am keeping it clean and was really happy with the results considering how bad it did look!

I also went about getting my bumper to fit properly, as anybody who has seen the car in the metal before will have seen the bumper didnt fit properly due to the stupidly large intercooler but I sorted that out without cutting my r32 bumper!

Then we went about getting the KO4 boosting up properly, which we did and all I can say is Jesus Christ with two seats and a KO4 she flies! Had a race with a R33 skyline and I didnt budge from his bumper until my boost pipe blew off so I had to pull over the side of the road and put it back on tightly. I should be getting the main boost pipe from the turbo to intercooler welded together as one piece as I had a cheap joiner from a ebay fmic kit I had (didnt have a spare samco coupler). Once I screwed it down so it didnt move the boost had no choice but to blow a hole in the side of it:

So I definatly need it welded as one piece now I think. I know I was saying the KO3s is better than the KO4 but I completely take that back now. My car flies now, the noise of the spool up is completely different and the noise at gearchange is the bollards. Il try and get a vid later, the problem is that if I go over 4k on the revs im likely to blow another coupler!

Quick Vid of the car, just because I wanted to see what it looked and sounded like from the outside - I love the sound! Bit annoying as cant take it over 3,500rpm at the moment as thats when the boost pipes pop off, will be buying some proper silicone and good clips on
the weekend as all the shops are shut when I finish work!

Comments welcome (I know I shouldnt be speeding but I wasnt actually going that quick)

Had an emergency day off yesterday to sort my car out after it got waterlogged due to the freak weather on Wednesday night.

Got the car low loaded to my mates V dub yard where we proceeded to do a compression test, the result no compression in the 2nd chamber. Stripped her down took the head off to find that I had water in all of my bores. All my pistons are level but I think when we strip down the bottom end im going to have bent conrods. To make things worse I just got made redundant as the mortgage industry is f**ked!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

She is back on the road as of thursday, still over heating like a b!tch so im 50/50 for edition38, going to crack on with waterpump and cambelt tomo!

Here is a pic I found the other day from Prept vs Players, got to put it up because I love it so much! lol

Hey Guys,

After the laughs, grey hairs, loosing my rag, actual tears of joy, sighs of relief, money spent, arguments with my ex, the break up(s), the people I have met and good friends I have made on the way it completely breaks my heart to tell you that I have deceided to break my mk4 after a problem with my bottom end now on my Aum (they are no good for a ko4 honestly).

I have been fighting it since back in August when I got made redundant from my Mortgage firm of 5 years and since then I have been temping here and there not earning even half of what I used to and cannot actually afford after looking at my finances to keep on with the project of my life so far. I am actually really upset to let you guys know that this is my final decision and even though I want to be cannot be swayed. Those of you who have seen my car in the flesh and have met me know how much I love my car and how much effort and stress has gone into it. It was a project with started way before I even had an inkling that my whole industry was going to crash and die and therefore had the money to plough into it and actually acheive my aim of creating a show/cover car from a completely base model mk4 golf, this is one thing that I am truley dissapointed in the most.

But bottom line is due to being let go from another temp job of 4 months, I cannot actually afford to have this car anymore due to the unstablitly of my income now. I will be on the look out for another car to have in the meanwhile while im saving my money so if anybody knows of anything preferably 1.9tdi or 1.6 engine or smaller please let me know (willing to do deal for parts)

My car is being broken over the next month and all parts will be stored in my garage from the ko4 set up to the suspension and smoothed tailgate. I will be putting up a long list of special bits in classifieds over the weekend, as well as the normal bits from the mk4, bonnet, wings, etc.

Thanks again to everybody that have been supportive of my dream and to those of you who have offered help and helped me on the way to realising it almost all the way. Still be dubbing guys so dont worry, may even give Rhyso a bit of satisfaction now by saying if I can get one cheap enough I may even buy a mk4 derv, but it'l be staying standard.

Thanks Again

Ashmond

Its been a long time with alot of stuff been going on behind the scenes but I am proud to say that I havent just dropped the mk4 like an old cavalier and that I sourced another engine and its in. Just got a few more bits to do and she'l be up and running again. My job situation hasnt improved much so she may not be on the road for a while as it is due tax, mot and insurance but she will be out on the streets once again once I do. A few things are different this time, mainly the engine; BJX engine code from an 07 low mileage polo 1.8t gti. There were a few differences that needed changing, including bracket for engine mounts, sensors and plugs but she is all loomed up and just needing a few bits (gaskets) and then the little bits, driveshafts etc to be bolted in and then she should start up again.

Look at my old engine been stripped down, no point in reusing as my bottom end has given up the ghost due to my belt breaking on me sad2

BUT she is back on the way to being finished once again, a few interior mods have been done but il keep them underwraps for the meanwhile. Once engine is in and running sweet, it'l be bodywork and then im done with her.

Right time for an update. I havent been dubbin for a while as went away to work on a greek island for 5 months over the summer and just have a good time! Since I been back I had to get the car all vagcom'd and ready for mot as we got it running before I left back in May. This is all done now and running like a dream with its 1.8t engine from an 07 polo and the KO4 turbo and all bits from the previous engine. Unfortunatly I had to sell a few bits in order to keep the car rather then selling it so have a few bits of bodywork to do now
---------------------------------------------------------

I went on to do another summer season and that brings us pretty much up to date with this!!

Posted 07 October 2010 - 12:34 PM

Havent updated my thread in a long long time so thought Id do so now, ended up doing a 2nd season abroad and the mk4 wasnt sold but just sat on the driveway looking sorry for itself. I am now back in work permenantly back in my industry and am looking to restart the build thread. Unfortunatly as a few of you know I have had to sell my r32 bumper and a few bits BUT I have a rear 32 bumper coming this weekend already in gloss black ready to go straight on and a r32 twin pipe exhaust system which I am swapping my current 4mo exhaust for. On the hunt for a genuine front 32 bumper again and once the exhaust and rear is mounted il get some snaps up.

SHE IS BACK!

'11 October 2010 - 12:01 PM

Right had a busy and productive weekend to the mk4, as mentioned in a previous post I was waiting for r32 bumper and exhaust . so I got up saturday morning very hungover to go out and do the exhaust to realise that I didnt have a jack (its been a while since I had worked on the car and forgot!) So I rang up Sammyu and he came over with stands and Jjack. Unfortunatly he had to go, so I was left to crack on by myself. so I set about removing my 4mo style Milltek (forgot the centre box, had to do that in the dark when T_Benn got to my house - mission!)

Luckily the bumper was in the same straight black as my car, good for now but the finish isnt brilliant so will need another respray when the car goes in for general bodywork and sprucing up at the end stages.

Exhaust and bumper fitting:

Exhaust wont hang proerly as had to cut iold 'V' rubber off my 4mo as it was split, need to replace! Put a bit of wood to hold it up as Sam took his jack with him. Also need to make up bracket for rightside tailpipe, didnt have time to finished yesterday will be finishing one night this week. Good progress though, more updates on the way.

As it stands, probably finish tomorrow night after work:

Right this weekend I finished installing the exhaust and lowered he back to the ground after being in the air a week. Also Charged battery and started her. slight blow in the middle of the exhuast which I will need to sort out but apart from that, runs smooth and sounds immense now with this system! Also took out the fake floor at the back, looking for leathers or red and black recaro cloth gti seats to carry on with the red and black theme. opinions always welcome.
