Do you think I'd get down the pads/discs in 3 years as these are covered too

LOL... sorry Teutonic but I have been thinking about what I can wear out in my Edition 30 in 3 years and 27k miles and came up with the following:

Front Tyres every 9k miles - I WILL do it
Rear Tyres every 15k miles - hopefully
Brakes within 3 years
Clutch within 3 years
Can't think of anything else, but I will get value out of the service agreement

Well I bought the Edition 30 to keep and for the first 4 weeks - until a couple of days ago - I was actually not liking it  Not because it isn't a great car - it is - and certainly better than the standard GTI I had last year... I'd say the difference between the two is a bit like the difference between the Mk2 8v and 16v GTI's if a comparison is possible and I definitely prefer the 16v   But I was really missing the R32 - apart from the mpg as I always state - and the absolutely superb DSG gearbox   I got to the point last week where I seriously thought of going back to the dealers and giving it in for a DSG R32 - Deep Pearl Blue Metallic of course. However, I then realised that I had only ever intended the Edition 30 to be a fun weekend car and I had originally intended to keep the R32 and part-ex it in September this year for another.  However, a house purchase has put paid to that and I am finding that I am using the Edition 30 as a daily driver probably until next year when I will get another R32 and park the Edition 30 in the garage.  But as a daily drive, the R32 in DSG guise is the perfect car for me.  Just putting my foot down and hearing that V6 growl banishes all thoughts of the petrol it gets through - you just don't get that in a GTI....

Didn't you ever think of getting the DSG for the ED30 Illyun?

I can tell you I wouldn't swap my ED30 against a similar spec R32. I have driven the R32 in both manual and DSG and I must confess the V6 growl is addictive and the wet grip superb (and simply cannot be matched by the ED30) but would go for the DSG in ED30 or R32 anytime.

Not sure how all this relates to how long my tyres will last

Well I don't think DSG suits the way I drive my Ed30 -   .  The DSG does have its 'quirks' which for me don't make it the ideal tranmission for a quick blast around some nice country roads.  I found a bit of hesitation on occasion and once I was almost caught out in my R32 when I tried to quickly enter a roundabout and felt like a rabbit caught in headlights when the DSG transmission refused to change down a couple of gears even though the accelarator pedal was down to the floor   However, for a daily drive it has to be DSG and that's a real endorsement of the transmission because before I drove DSG, you would have had to put a gun to my head to get my to buy an automatic car.  I'll start saving the pennies and get a DSG R32 next year - it doesn't handle as well as the GTI, probably isn't as fast as the Edition 30  to 100mph (where legal ), but its still the best car I have ever had and has place in my heart.

And I couldn't fault you one little bit for liking the R32

Oh... and that doesn't mean that I'll be selling the Edition 30.  It will go in the garage.  :nerd:
