Holy cow...been and done it
« on: 15 March 2007, 16:24 »
Still can't quite believe it but signed up for a new Mk5 GTi DSG and now just sitting back and waiting for it to arrive...late April/early May the dealer reckons

Flipping scary amount of cash to spend but after a near death bike crash in 2005 I have decided to just get on with it and stop waiting to see when things might happen.

So excited I feel like a little kid hopping from foot to foot.

Only gutting bit is the Mk2 16v may have to go to pay for it. But that's another story and one I will put off for as long as possible

You won't regret it. the DSG is smooth as you like and so relaxing. but you still get the paddle shifts in case you fancy bombing it around.

What spec have you got? Colour? Doors? standard or Ed30??

Good luck with it by the way!!

It's a 5-dr (15-month-old kid), Pearl black, 18s, Xenons, and a few bits and bobs incl rear sensors and smoked windows...the wallet ran dry then

Never owned a new car before so massively excited - just gagging to get in and go for a blast. My 1991 Mk2 still rocks and even though I don't drive it hardly at all anymore, I still love it so much - hopefully the new one will be as close to my heart.

Will keep people updated as the dealer lets me know what's up.

if your Mk2 is mint and a low mileage one then you WILL  regret selling it.  On the other hand you WON'T regret buying the Mk5 - both cars are fantastic although my favourite GTI of all time is the Mk2 16v, but only by a whisker.

I know what it feels like though as my first car was the Mk5 GTI I bought last year.  Had to sell my 57k mileage Mk2 16v which was the best car I have ever had - including the Mk5.

Great feeling isn't it, the waits the killer bit though, still helps top up the bank balance.

Best of luck.

There's no way I am ever going to get back the money I have spent restoring the Mk2 to the condition it's in now so keeping it and just using it occasionally seems to be a plan. Just have to tell the missus it's for sale nut no demand for that sort of thing! Hee hee hee.

Maybe if I put it up for £10k it'll keep her happy

And yes, the wait is really painful - end of April can't come soon enough.

Ordered mine (Not Edition 30) on the 13th of February and was originally given the same delivery date (End of April/Early May). Spoke to the dealer today and he said build week was week 18 (which I believe is week beginning 30th April (please correct me if wrong)), with delivery hopefully a few weeks later. Wonder why I'm waiting around 4-5 weeks longer?

Because dealers tell youone thing and know it's going to be longer.
