Original Spec?
« on: 27 January 2004, 13:06 »
Hallo to you.

I've got a Greg 3 door 8v, that was first registered in July 90.
Does anybody know what the original wheels and tyre sizes were?
And whether they came with fog lamps as standard?

  Thanks
      Dave

being registered in july 90 means it should be a big bumper model.

if it has big bumpers like in my sig pic then it should have fogs, if it dont have the fogs then i reckon its had a front end smack at some point in its life

It has got big bumpers.
The spaces for the fogs are there but not cut out.
I just thought it might have been an option when the car was new.
The bodywork looks spot on and the red on the bumpers looks just as good as the rest of the car so i'm not sure if it's had a smack. ???

Hi Dave, all original 'big bumper' GTI's have fog lights up front. So looks as if your one has had a new non-standard bumper fitted at some point. At that time it would have come with either 14" steel wheels or 15" alloys

If it doesn't have fogs in it then it is definately an aftermarket bumper.

I have a a set of 14" steels on my 91 J plate as standard. See my "What are the Standard Wheels?" question to learn more.

here's a good check for you - if your worried about the front of your car

have a look behind your front bumper, you shouldnt have a front bottom panel, if it has the bottom panel then its originally a small bumper

you can see the bottom panel on this small bumper car, its the white bit below the bumper and above the bottom lip

mounting brackets for the fogs might still be there, then all you'd need to do is find two fog lamps then cut the holes out of the bumper

Standard wheels would have been 14" steel ones wth 185/60R14 Michelin MXV2's, unless factory/dealer option were fitted.
