ECU Advice

My engine just died on me the other week!
After having an auto electrician do some tests he said everything pointed towards the ECU. Does anyone know whether you should just be able to plug the new 1 in or does it need tuning/programming somehow??
Thanks in advance.

wont need reprogramming, just a another compatible unit, eg. if yours is an 8v digi, get another ecu from a digi. also, there were different manufacturers of those ECUs, i.e. Bosch/Tan and so get the corresponding one.

what are the symptoms, the first thing you should do if you suspect a dead ECU, is to remove all the battery/starter/alternator wires, and give the connections a good clean with sandpaper till they're shiny. Especially the gearbox earth, as a loose/poor gearbox earth will cause the ECU to blow. You don't want the new one to blow as well do you?
