MFA not giving oil temp?
« on: 07 February 2007, 18:35 »
the oil temp on my MFA just reads blank even when the car has warmed up and I dont knowwhy. IT was reading fine just after the water incident and two people going under the bonnet. Is there anything that could have got caught in the mayhem?
sun, sea, sand + mk2 8v gti = fun

have you checked the connection to the sensor?  should be on top of the Oil cooler. I have '90 8v gti, it has a green wire to the sensor.

Sorry to say not on my PB head, see page 2C.7 of haynes manual. Pic shows Oil temp sender on top of the Oil cooler. The sensor on the head is the 0.3 bar Oil pressure switch. I can't see any other sensors on the head.

you're both right
8v sensor is in the oil filter housing, 16v is on the back of the head.  The sensor has a spade connector on it, and the wire colour is black/green.
The oil temp will read --- below 50 degrees, if like you say it still reads --- above this, then either the wiring or the sensor is duff.

To check the wiring, simply earth the sensor lead to the engine, the MFA display should shoot up to max.  If not you have a break in the wire, and if it does, replace the oil sensor :)
