I sat in both today at the mk5 private show thing. They are SOOO damn dated inside.. I couldnt put up with that...

My mk3 is borderline ancient, but these older models... no offence like, but ... eeeek... 80's thru and thru

Depends what you're after.. My Mk1 has little to no luxury and thats how i like it... I used to have a Nissan 300ZX 300hp+ very fast and full of luxury but big..

The old golfs are proper throw about cars...

No offence but Mk3 onwards i wouldnt bother (unless i was an old crusty), i think VW lost the plot after the mk2 (and a little during it).

Its not a small throw about car anymore and its not a fast car by any means
.... Its just a family car in a posh frock in Gti format

What?!?!?

If i was interested in safety i'd buy a Nissan Micra then i'd never get to 60.
I take it your comment was a joke

no it wasnt a joke. Technology moves on, people move on... i dont wanna drive a death trap if I crashed.

if sum1 in a new Ford Mondeo hit your car at 60mph... mk2 golf? ya prolly dead

if they hit u in a mk5... u probably live

see? they give u 200Bhp, and loadsa safety so its as quick as the old things but with safety.

R32 Vs 16v Mk2.

hmmmm....

i'm afraid i totally disagree with you.

1st - Do you spend you life worrying about if a Ford Mondeo will hit you? yes you have more chance of dying in a less safe car but you still have a chance..

2nd - 200hp, whats the got to do with anything. 200hp in a car twice the weight? do the maths.

3rd - if i wanted a safe and fast car why go for a golf? there are far better cars at the same price (and less)

Your thoughts on a crash in an old car, way off the mark.
I had a mk2 scirroco for all of 8 hours before I was hit in the drivers door at over 100 MPH by a couple of boy racers - The police turned up, took one look at the car, and the surrounding debris, then closed the road off as they thought it was a fatal accident, then they started skid testing (which is how I know how fast they were going) - but as you can obviously see, I survived, and so did the 3 passengers. The police were off the opinion that this was probably due to the VW build quality - not bad for a car on a Y plate!!

my injuries - whiplash, 1 inch scratch on my chest, and knocked unconscious. every one else came out without a mark

'BlackGTi' I think youve lost the plot.

Why dont you get on the classic car forums and tell those boys their cars suck cos they dont meet with you stringent safety standards??

You want safe, go on the Volvo forum.
