Intereting thread this, as my Gti's was a year old last saturday, I thought while I was a the dealer having it serviced for the first time, I'd ask about a test drive in an R32, that was until I got the saleman to give me a trade in value on mine.

2006 3 door
Steel Grey
Leather
Winter pack
18" Monza's
Centre armrest
7400 miles
Cruise
Mint condition

Wait for it....

£15500k, I paid £23k, so in a yearit's lost £7500k

Don't get me wrong I love my GTi, but that's a big hit in a year.

welcome to the used car world!  thats very low, you'd get a lot more privately.

My sister has just sold her 54 reg clio dci 80, only 13,000 miles, which list price 2 years ago was £11k, she paid £9,200 and just sold it for £5,750, thats a b!tch!

i also went into vw yesturday and made an enquiry, mine is an 05 plate, with stack loads of extras, all they would give me for mine is £18000, i payed £22500 in september 06, the salesmen said theres not much difference in his opinion, apart from the horsepower and some spray paint and stitching.!! so for me to get in an edition 30 with same spec as my current one, would set me back... wait for it  £29200 approx!!!!!!, I'LL THINK I WILL PASS THIS ONE!!!. and wait for a 1 year old bus later on, and when the wife lets me!!

Did you buy your for a bargin price then Phil, only I'd have thought £17.5k would have been about right for mine, as they have the same year and milage on their forecourts for £20k +

i payed £22500 for mine, it was 14 months old, 6000 miles on the clock already, still with 8mm of tread on origonal  tyres so carefully driven, mint condition and has the following spec, compare whats im mine to yours and maybe you'll see the reason for higher trade in:

2005 gti
05 plate
6000 miles on the clock
5 DOOR
DSG gearbox
pearlesent laser blue,
18' monza's
Sat nav
cruise control
Full leather
6 disc and centre arm rest
bi xeon lights
Winter pack
Luxery pack 2, (dimming elctric fold mirrors)
multi funtion wheel
highline computer

Reason i guess is yours was from new, main depreciation is in 1st yr. mine new would of cost £28000 due to extras and not £23000

Yeah that's a big spec, makes more sense to me now. oh well I'll go and lick my wounds

I think I'll cancel the test drive in the R32, better to have lost a lump on a car you like, than one your not keen on.
