Potential power gain?
« on: 15 January 2007, 18:48 »
I have a standard 16V producing an exactly standard 139 bhp. There is a local company with a good reputation that charges around 4-5 hundred for a head port/polish/gas flow thing. I was wondering typically what power advantage I could expect for the cash? Cheers.

(OK, not totally standard - it has a stainless exhaust and k&N filter. I'd expect 142-145 right now but the cam chain is a little stretched and needs replacing - this would be done too).

I'd be more inclined to say you'd get about 10bhp extra out of that mod alone. Chuck a 2ltr bottom end in the mix and then you'd have a big chunk of torque to go with it.

In a word - No

Besides, mine hasn't had any internal work other than a full rebuild to standard spec....get the head done on yours and then when you got the money get a 2.0 bottom end

So you have 176 bhp with no internal work and a 1.8 bottom end? Couldn't I expect at least 160 then with gas flow, zorst and filter (and rolling road set-up)?? If so, I'm gonna do it. Your car must bloody fly by the way as after a rolling road session mine shifts very well with just 139..

I should have stated that mine's a standard 2.0 ABF running on K-Jet  ...and compared to the old standard 1.8, yes, it flies

Go for the head work and let us know what results you get. The best thing is that you have a figure to compare it to so you'll know exactly what you've gained.
