usual position was on the wng on the 8v's, but many many owners bunged a 16v jobby on cause they look less g@y..... im not 100% but maybe the late run out jobbies had a 16v ariel on too??



what mk are we talkin about here?

cause my 97 gti 8v has the aerial on the roof as well  :cool:

im on about mk2's mate... one of the only mk's the golf was worthy of wearing a 'gti' badge...

little bit of controversy early in the year...  :tongue:

no offence taken at all mate, but im interested as to why u think that... is it purely a performance thing? or just a general aura of the mk2 that makes it the 'real' gti?

A real 16v's instruments on the dash are different too: speedo goes up to 160mph as opposed to 120mph. And redline comes in at 7000rpm, as opposed to 6000. ( i think )

my mk2 8v says 160 mph on the speedo. is that a runout thing?

i'm not sure? all the 8v's i've seen have speedo's showing a max speed of 120mph.
but i don't know if there was a change over at any point. Anyone know the answer to this one?

the 8v's had 140mph speedo's at some point, I think the 16v's may have done too ? all the 16v's I can think of have 160mph though, including mine  :cool: so I'm not sure  :undecided:

Revs go to 7000rpm on an 8v and 8000rpm on 16v :nerd:

My 1992 J reg mk2 has the aerial on the roof its also a run out model  :cool:
