No way mate - 2 guys i work with have TVR and both have actually spent more time in the garage than on the road - 1's got a Griffith 500 that is fantastic and the others got a T350 that is just brutal.

However both are just a nightmare reliability wise. electrics and trim being the worst. good for a seconf car perhaps but mine has to be my daily drive.

How about a Lotus Carlton.....?!

Lovely car mate - bit tricky in the wet by all accounts and hard work but i think they're one of the 10 best looking cars on the market. and the engines phenomenal. A fantastic choice if you get it.

I'd definitely see if I could stretch to an Audi RS6.

Point-to-point, it kills M3s, M5s, Scoobies, and just about every 911 except the Turbo and GT3.

Otherwise, what about the new Audi A3 3.2 Quattro with the DSG 'box?.  Twin clutches.  Computer automatically preselects 2nd when you're in 1st, 3rd when you're in 2nd and so on.  Uninterrupted forward thrust.  Superb!

Are Audi Planning to release a new S3, by the way?  Will it be a turbo'd 3.2?  (Here's hoping!)

I'd say go with the Lotus Carlton if you can find a good one, an M5 if you can't. The quattro system of the RS6 is all well and good, but with all that power in a big saloon, the power really should only come from the back wheels. Might be ever so lightly slower point to point (but by much less than you'd think if the M5 pilot is a bit handy), but powerslides > 4 wheel drifts every time

Other possibilities I would consider for  under 25K would include

BMW 330i Sport
Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 (or even a Final Edition). Really would work best as a second car but christ, what a second car.
VW Golf R32 - does everything the S3 does but does it better and for 4 grand less. I have no idea why anyone would take an S3 over this.
Clio V6 - just cos it's completely off its tits. Came third in evo COTY aswell, beating off the 360CS and M3 CSL.


Damn i'd be tempted to take the Integrale. It manages to make both the most and the least sense at the same time. An all time classic imo.

If you wanna think a little different, have a go in a Holden GTS. Its essentially a big Omega, but it has a 340bhp 5.7 litre V8 and six speed 'box from the Corvette ZR1

They're also quite tuneable - my old man had a blower bolted onto his from new by the importer (Linden Special Vehicles) and its now producing 532bhp and 500+lb ft of torque.

There's only about 120 of them in the country, so you'd be driving something that your average man in the street wouldn't see everyday.

Basically, you've got a fast, comfortable, spacious, driftable, rare motor. Its essentially a reliable four door TVR! Find one and have a blast, should be able to pick up a standard GTS for that moolar, no problems.
