Well, It's just taken me 5 minutes to take out the existing unit to get the Bosch part number, and I'm certainly no mechanic.  But you need a special tool if you only want to take out the sensor itself, as opposed to sensor and housing.  From reading other threads security torx are the requirement, but I'm guessing what I'll be ordering is the complete unit from looking at Euro Parts yesterday

Mine was holding back through parts of the rev range last month and that turned out to be a coolant temp sensor

Also if your after a MAF they are only about £70 from VW

Well, have changed by MAF sensor but....
Long story short - Managed to find the exact part number on Ebay, brand new(don't think it's Bosch, from Portland Group, had seen their name in other posts.  Fair shout mind you, ordered Weds morning, arrived Thurs, and fitted this morning.
So my ongoing saga has left me with the following:
1000-1800 revs, really poor pick up and chronic turbo lag, even to the point you take your foot of the gas and it really wants to slow down rather than your usual sedate slow down.  Put it this way, I don't feel comfortable pulling out of junction in a hurry !
1800-3000 - spot on, gives way more than before and is exactly what I wanted
3000-4000 - feels like it's misfiring, as performance dips again in pretty much every gear !

I did swap out the green cotton with the standard, but it made it worse to put the green one back in.
I also checked the fitting and stuff but it all looked fine

Any help/thoughts appreciated as before...

as i said earlier i've got a 150 too, i can only assume mines running alright but have only had it about 6 weeks and not had it checked out as everything seems ok.

i'll agree the below 1800 the pick up is poor, but it doesn't really slow down, i have no worries pulling out of a junction, if i need to i can quite easily pull out, i probably change to second quite quickly if i'm pulling out on something so will normally get the traction on in second.

the power does tend to fall off over 4000 but at this point you would normally of changed gears of the top of my head doing about 130 in 6th is still under 4000

i'm not sure if this is going to help or not. however i'll try keep an eye on my revs when i drive home to night and will post anything that i might think will help

Well...having suffered no pull up a hill at 1300 revs, foot to the floor style, and misfiring when idling, I've removed the replacement and am picking up a matched part from VW on Friday

VW part solved the issue, one from ebay must have been faulty

Glad to hear it's all fixed mate.
Not sure but my mpg has not gone much over 40 - 45 in fact it sticks between that when my Mrs drives it and she drives it sensibly unlike me .

Just to point out the after market filters just don't cut it the airflow vs clean air is always a problem the problems occurs when people use a fresh K&N pannel and it still has alot of sticky oil on it to attract the dust and crap. What I found was that the oil sometimes flies off the pannel down the induction pipe right onto the MAF sensor making it heat up and burning out to a limp mode.
Never try and clean it with chemicals either, it tends to leave residue and can cause premature ejeculation failure.
