That Key issue again !
« on: 05 November 2006, 13:45 »
Hi all.... here goes another remote key issue !

I went to the local dealers the other day to get a spare flip key remote cut & coded ...

So .. they cut the key FOC ( i supplied the blade ) and took it away into the workshop , after an hour i was informed that the remote was faulty and couldnt code the key to my car ... sounds familiar as i recall summat like that being reported on here ....

however after paying them to re-code my original key   i finally left the dealer ..

When i got home i thought id try the spare to see what and if it did anything at all , and to my suprise the key unlocks and locks the doors manually ( obvious ?  ) but the strange part was i can start the car with the spare ! BUT the key (immobiliser) light on the dash is present only with the spare mind you ... but it starts and runs the car !

so ... as far as i can tell the only problem i see with the spare now is the remote operation doesnt work.

any ideas ?

hey, the spare key will start the car, but as th elight is on the car will eventually cut out, maybe when you are driving therefore it is unsafe, you def need to get the key programmed to the immobiliser. hope this helps a bit

Hi , thanks .... but its only the spare key i have the issue with ..

I agree it wouldnt be wise perhaps to use the problem one full time ..

just needed the issue clearing really , thought it was odd that it does actualy start the car.

sounds like they only re-coded the immobiliser.  The remote locking needs to be synced with the car.  There's a process you need to go through that involves both keys.

Have a search through the forum as I'm sure it's been covered before.

Yeah, I've seen that somewhere. You can do it yourself. It's to do with leaving one key in the ignition and doing something with the other key :undecided: I'm sure you'll find it after a brief search.

Hi again , yes im aware of how to do the re-coding of the keys ( had a good old search around) .... turning keys pressing buttons etc etc..

im just curious about the immobiliser / key light on the dash more than anything  :undecided:

im assuming that if that warning light is on it shouldnt be starting the car , but it does !

thanks again all
best wishes

ah right, sorry mis-read your post  :embarassed:

not sure on the light issue.  I had it happen to me once and it's never happened again  :undecided:

though i get the feeling my battery in the fob is on its way out as sometimes it takes a couple of attempts to unlock the car.
