Ok rotors spinning as it should.

I have to make clear I only bought this car a week ago as a non runner....he told me there was no spark from 3 & 4....I checked today & I do have spark to all cylinders.

Today ive removed the coil, tested it on multimeter....tested ok, replaced it anyway & still no fire up!!

Fuses & relays are all fine (I think) Ignition module showing 12v.

Im begining to think its not an ignition fault after all!!

How do I check the fuels getting through??

Im lucky my mate has a 8v digifant lying up his drive abandoned & is letting me take anything I want from it, I nicked his coil today....is there any other bits I could take to swap/test??

Could the MAF be responsible?? Its running a K&N induction kit just now!!

Sorry for all the questions, hope theres someone out there who can help me

Have you checked the timing? Swap the blue temp sensor, and the MAF is worth a try though they rarely fail completly

How do I check timing??? Excuse my lack of knowledge

Blue temp sensor was done about a year ago...says prev. owner, suppose theres no harm in getting another though...halfords sell these dont they.

Maf...yeah i'll whip the one off my mates to try!!

Previous owner told me the car started to run bad about 2 months ago like hesitating & not pulling like it should sometimes, when you planted the right foot. Then get worse & worse to the point he stopped driving it. When I went to take a look at it at his house he got it to fire after 10s or so & reversed it out the garage.....it smelled like it was running very rich. Now its not firing up at all!!

Dont bother with pattern sensors, buy genuine vw. will only cost £13!
025 906 041 A :)

As for timing:
1. Turn the engine over clockwise with a spanner/socket on the cam sprocket bolt till the notch on the crank pulley lines up with the mark on the belt cover
2. Check the punch mark on the rear of the cam sproket lines up with the top surface of the head, i.e. as if the rocker cover & seal were removed.
3. Remove the dizzy cap, and check the rotor arm lines up with spark plug lead #1

I'd do the blue sensor first, as it does sound like it has failed!

Oh forgot to mention, when the crank pully marks are lined up, its worth pulling spark plug #1 and shining a torch down the bore to verify cylinder 1 is actually at TDC :)
If you have a timing light you can check the ignition timing once you get it running, you need to remove the big green bung in the top of the gearbox.

In fact, have a read thru my digifant tuning guide in the maintenance+info section, it tells you everything you need to know

Update:

Tested the injector continuity & found it to be 4.8 ohms...another wee thing checked off!!

Also found out the blue temp sensor was last replaced 10 months ago. Upon inspection the wires coming from the plug have gone brittle & some of the insulation has come off exposing the bare wire........this maybe causing an open circuit?? I'll look into it!

Ok ive replaced the blue sensor for one thats known to work, replaced the maf, replaced the ECU & ignition module & checked the timing - which all lines up!!

Ive got fuel pissing out on ignition so that ends fine.

Plugs are sparking.

Bloody car

Anyone got any other suggestions??
