Don't get an induction cone as they are wank. All they do is suck hot air in from the engine and slow the engine down.

For once i agree with Mr.Slick on this one.
On the carb engines the airbox sits behind the engine, so a bolt on induction kit will just suck in hot air, this probably will affect performance.
The best thing to do is put a k&n panel in it, and run a pipe to the grill to get a decent air intake.
BTW induction kit won't really affect cold starts, the warm air hose is not for cold starting, the system opens when the inlet air temp is below a certain level, so this is for when the car is running to prevent carb icing.

Personally i'd take it to your local garage.... They will do a exhaust gas test on it etc.
I once messed around with a SU carb... not worth it.
It shouldnt cost too much.
