not a gti but ......

hi all,
ive just bought a 1990 golf, fitted with the big bumper kit etc, however it only has a 1.3 cl engine, i couldnt go for the full on gti with 5 points and only being 18 so i went for the 1.3 after being told they can be tuned very well! do you know if this is true? and can anyone maybe give some examples of what to tweak first,

i think the usual for a start exhaust system, then maybe a different carb as i think the standard ones are pants, there may be a webber alternative then a nice k+n pancake filter on, then get it  set up on a rollin road youll get a few bhp, then theres gas flowing and maybe a different cam, i dont know off the top of my head what the standard power out put is ??

thanks people, well the dub is already fitted with a exhaust system with a twin dtm box and a k&n to go with it thinking of a carb but what type of weber would be best?? oh and does anyone know any good sites where i can buy this stuff from???

I'm afraid to say its not really worth tuning the 1.3, its about 55bhp as standard.
Enjoy the fuel economy until you can afford to insure a faster car.

Get a 8v gti cam, you'll notice the difference!
they cost next to nothing at the scrappy.

 all well and good but i want to tune my baby after all ive got 3 years till ill be able to afford the insurance!! so any idea where i can get cams and carbs from??

this is a really stupid question but how do i no wot an 8v engine is in the scrappys as the ones near me are useless?? sorry to be thick but not having one dont help?? will i need to change the tappets or just the cam??
