Rear Fog lights

Has anyone noticed that VW have managed to make a car with rear foglights that only one side works, being the drivers side rear.

I noticed the bulb was missing from the other side which looked like it never had a bulb in it from new so I bought a pair and fitted them both in and only the drivers side lights up, of course I swapped the bulbs over but still the same.

Does this mean this is ment for the german market?

Not as far as i know.   All VW's i know only have the driver's side fog bulb, as do most cars.

I only ask the question as I owned a vectra before and both rear lights lit up on that.

i guess it depends on the manufacturer.  My MK2 had only the one fog light, as does my g/f's 206 and her mum's Renault 19.

Hummm, thats wierd so why do they give you two red lenses and only have the drivers side work, vw couldn't be bothered to feed 12v to the left hand side........odd.

i'm not certain about this but think the logic behind the single rear fog lamp is so that other motorists don't confuse rear fog lights with brake lights. In poor conditions when these lights should be used, if you had twin rear fogs it looks like you are braking, one rear fog is easier to differentiate from braking lights.
