Suspension & Revs Question mk2 16v
« on: 13 July 2006, 12:44 »
in the morning when i start my car up, it turns over every time on the 1st turn of the key  the revs settle at 1100 rpm but then they shoot upto 2800 rpm sit there for a bit then fall back down to 1100rpm. If i drive of , if i rev to 2800-3000 rpm and dip the clutch in to change gears (foot of the accelerator) i notice the revs are still up where they were when i took my foot of the accelerator they then fall back down again, this only happens for about 5 mins worth of driving and everything is okay after that. I've tested the accelerator micro switch and that seems to work ok..................any ideas whats causing it , i've had the accelerator cable changed last year........................

also got eibach/bilstein suspension setup and I have noticed that rather than being a well damped sporty but completely comfortable road set up its suddenly become really edgy and the car seems to bounce harshly over the slightest ripple in the road, i get out of the car sometimes and i feel like i've been on a bucking bronco.................................... is there anything in the suspension parts that may have disintegrated over time and be causing this change in ride quality........e.g top mounts, bump stop etc

I'd start by checking out the bump stops,  how much is it lowered by?  If its been dropped by a fair ammount you need to chop down the bump stops a bit usually!

Id also check for blown shockers. If one has gone it will bounce allong merrily.

As for the running problem you may find that your warm up regulator is faulty. But before dealing with that clean out your isv with some carb cleaner.

had the shocks and springs on the car for abour 9 months now, its a slightly firmer set up then standard with only a 15mm drop all round, so the car shouldnt be sitting on the bump stops, how do i check for blown shock?

isv buzzes away, and i've gunked it out, only change i noticed this morning was that the revs got stuck at 2800 rpm and wouldnt come down, its like theres something on the accelator pedal but there isnt and the mircoswitch is being touched, I have noticed the cars being a bit juicy recently................but i dont exactly drive it like a nun either  how can i test the WUR?

cheers

I'd advise removing the throttle body and cleaning that out. It's probably full of grime which is blocking air ways. Also if the t/b is sticking it would cause the revs to stay up when you let off the gas. lube it up with some white grease :)

check the circlip around the top of the piston on the shocks, these are a frequent weak part on shocks and if they come out of their notch then the springs have nothing to stop them. So the piston top also comes through the top of the turret (underneath the shelf supports)

right guys I've still got this problem with my over revving golf

can anyone tell me where this "over run cut off valve" is, if a pic I've done a search in my pdf haynes and cant find it.

the ISV is defo buzzing away nicely, the mass flow flap moves nicely, although i dont know how i can check that it isnt getting stuck?

and i've oiled up the butterflies in the air intake?

all suggestion would be grateful, i live in a quiet area and when i start my car up at night the neighbors dont appreciate it revving to 3K and sitting there, and i dont like like driving off till the temps gone up a little

also this is probably consequence of everything but my car feels super fast like over fueling all the time, i beat a mk4 r32 off the lights the other day (not sure if thats normal for mk2 16v kr vs r32), but i remember when my cousins 16v calibra used to run like sh!t of a shovel it exploded a couple of months later   , would prefer not go the same way

sounds more like the ISV control module is banjo'd - it hides behind the centre console

is the throttle microswitch defo working?

if its annoying you that much then just run with the ISV disconnected
