Which is your favourite colour for which car?
« on: 17 December 2003, 12:24 »
I'm trying to find a nice Mk1 and while looking around it struck me that some colours suit certain cars better than others.
For example, In my opinion (and no flames please) I think the Mk1 looks good in black, red and white, where as I don't think red or white look as good on standard Mk2s.

For Mk1s I think Helios Blue and Lhasa Green are very nice, but there are plenty of other colours that work well.
On Mk2s, my favourites are probably Oak Green and the Royal Blue.

I'm really talking about the standard colours not custom jobs on standard cars, once you get into customised cars and resprays, it's a whole other ball game.

My first golf was a Mk2 GL in what VW called "Polar Metallic Silver" but what anyone else would call Gold.
My grandparents had a yellow Mk1 5 door in the early 80's and my parents had a Blue (P reg I think) Mk1 1.1 for a while (till the body rusted), so now I want a Mk1 GTI.

So what's your favourite?

I love black on any car, but it is so hard to keep clean!
Red looks nice but has a tendancy to fade more noticeably over the years.
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

BLACK !

Black everytime, for any car
yep im a black fan.

Ive started to like red cars too, which is odd, I used to hate them

Red mk2 big bumper - very nice..

But black defo wins!!

My girlfriend has owned a total of 4 cars.  Every one has been white!
Not by choice. its just luck of the draw sometimes..

Oak green on a mk2. Also i like pearl grey metallic, which is strangely what my mk2 16v was and what my mk3 vr6 is.

I had a black 1.6 mk1 GTI and then a black 1.8 GTI years ago,  at the time black was my favourite colour followed by Lhasa green.  I now have a Lhasa green one which I think looks really good, mine has had the decals removed which makes it look a little more subtle.  I think mk1's also look good in white but it doesnt really suit a mk2.  Not too keen on the Helios blue, it think it looks a little ordinary and I am afraid I dont like the red ones atall.

I forgot the silver ones.  Like with white, i think silver looks good on a mk1 but not on a mk2.  However, I think the silver ones are the most difficult to keep looking new and fresh. For some reason, if the paints not well kept or its starting to rust, it can make silvers look tattier than if it was another colour. Strange!!

Anyone that gets their mk1 resprayed with pearlescent paint of any colour should go and stand in the corner and think about how bad they have been.
Lhasa Green MK1 GTI
Red (Varying shades) MK2 GTI
