Rear brake question
« on: 30 June 2006, 08:20 »
Alright folks, just a quick question that's been nagging me. What with a lot of people doing the 280mm front's I wonder if anyone had done a larger rear upgrade? I know that it's not really going to do anything what with the weighting of front braking, but just for the look, so you don't have discs that look huge on the front and a bit tiny on the back!

I have seen it done, but as you say, there really isn't much point. I think it's an 80/20 split anyhow, people tend to just put drilled discs on the back for that slightly "sportier" look.

couldnt give a sh!te about me rears they do balls all anyway just stop me car rolling out of spaces......

but u could probably fit larger rear discs off another vw like a vr6 maybe? would have to get brackets etc and its hardly worth doing. dont have so big wheels is the other option...

Who you calling big wheels! They're long gone boyo, had to sell one set of alloys because of storage (or lack of) and there was no way I was going to part with my BBS RA's, which are now back on!

VR6's have 226mm rear discs aswell don't they? and besides, that would mean converting to 5 stud wheels...

as for the original question. there isn't any point in touching the rear brakes. just drilled discs and paint the calipers :D

Yup VRs have same sized discs as a MK2.
A golf Rallye has 239x10mm rear discs, in fact they are the same as MK2 1.3 front discs
