one thing you could do is unplug one of the the vacuum hoses to the 3/4 point unit, this will raise the idle as the plunger will be stuck out all the time. I don't advise driving it with an air leak that size though

There is only 1 carb -> inlet flange, which is just bolted on, no need to remove the inlet

Wait, we are talking about a 1.6/1.8 carby MK2 right?
Edit: I think actually if you simply unplug the TTV the 3/4 will stick open... Its all on that diagram in the link above anyway, including vacuum hose diagrams down the bottom.
