to help me seal my exhaust.

it doesnt seal well were the exhaust (jetex stainless) meets the standard downpipe.i have tried all sorts of stuff from halfords etc including exhaust paste, exhaust bandage and eo on. the problem is where the 2 slots are cut to allow it to be clamped, it blows from those. wat does anyone reckon?

any good tips?

cos the popping is really annoying me now

i have just ordered a heavy duty exhaust clamp like this



and im gonna try pasting underneath it and doing it as tight as i can

however if anyone has any tips then feel free........

As above, when the down pipe went on my first golf the new one just wouldn't seal. It got to the point that I was snapping exhaust clamps trying to do them up tight so in the end I had that welded and it was fine.

yeah i did think of that if the doesnt work then i may do, but can u weld stainless steel to a normal downpipe?

I cant see why not, stainless can be a bit harder to weld but at the end of the day your welding steel to steel. A good welder worth his salt should piss it really mate

vw clamps are the sh!t they are well heavy duty problem solved cheers dudes

Don't weld it, just use heavy duty clamps.
I had this problem as well with the vr6, i used loads of paste.
Also note that if you overtighten the clamps, the exhaust will not be compressed evenly, ie. it won't be round any more, so won't seal properly. This is what happens with cheap crap clamps.
