40k service
« on: 20 May 2006, 22:50 »
Hi,

my 1.6s golf is coming up to its 40k service and was told by my local vw specialist it will cost £290. But didn't have time to tell me what is done as they was about to close when I caught them  also said that they usually you have a mini service then a major service. So just wondering what justifies a cost of £290 seems a smidge high ? sounds like a stealer price.

Cheers

Does sound a bit high, especially for a specialist.  Where are you based?  I had a 40k dealer service with no pollen or air filter change on my turbo & it cost £195.  £290 does seem a bit steep.

Hey ivor,

Am in South London. They have one work for me before and are quite reasonable in other things. But there service seems a little on the high side.

Can you reccomend anywhere ?

Could be worse my mum just forked up £510 for a 20k service on a cupra 150TDi. I said id do it for £60 but she knows best. That included 2 tyres £200 so service only realy cost £310 for brake fluid change, oil change, air filter, fuel filter and adatives. What really makes me laugh is £55 of oil(4 litres), oil flush £10, Oil adative £8 its just a joke for a stamp.
