MOT and ABS light

hi , on my mk4 golf my ABS light coems on everytime teh car is started and beeps, will it pass its MOT with the ABS fault and also if there is an airbag fault will it pass???

Nope, if the light is on it a failure.

so it iwll fail for the ABS warning but what about the airbag light???

Instead of messing about with bulbs and stuff, you could actually attempt to fix your ABS. It is relatively simple, being this is the problem. Wheel speed sensors located around the hub are magnetic. Over time, brake dust that contain metal contents will stick to the Wheel sensor as it's magnetic. This buggers up the the sensor. Easy way to fix this problem is to clear that crap off the sensor, all 4 wheels.

This is a common problem, happened to 2 of my cars for this exact reason. Its at least worth a try eh

Could also be a loose or broken wire to the sensor on the hub so check these as well.

For the airbag I had an A4 that lit the airbag warning light which the guys at the garage reset at every service. They did this by removing the module that was under the seat in the A4 and cleanning the contacts and it reset. Might be a similar setup in the MK4.

roughly how much should a new sensor cost plus fitting costs? ive been quoted £150

i got LEN405 to help change a ABS sensor on my mk4 recently (front left wheel)
Part cost £10 from ebay and about hour or so labour.
There is a really good thread on this forum with pics and everything.

Oh yeh, after changing the sensor, we realised that when i had car fitted with lowered springs, the wires that conected to the sensor
were not clipped prperly into place, so the front wheel was rubbing on the wheels and snapped, So did not need to change sensor really
But only noticed this after the hard work was done
