Not if they've broken the glass to take them out, which i thought you mentioned? (Or did i read it wrong?.)

Someones nicked them because they're very easy to get off.. 5 seconds per side if you know what your doing! which is why they went missing, someone who knew what they were doing needed some!!
new ones are dead easy to fit, they just push into place, by gently pushing the centre of the glass, and spreading the load, until they snap into place, if you feel uncomfortable doing this.. take them to a garage, probably cost you a drink!

Thanks everybody for your help

I have just been to VW Croydon and purchased some new ones (£76 for both). The guy in the parts section said to me that theyre selling bucket loads of these mirrors because people are nicking them and putting them on ebay. He said he's also seen the same customers coming in again and again (i hope that wont be me). He also said there is nothing anybody can realistically do to stop it happening

Id like to put a request out to anyone thinking of buying new mirrors from ebay to refrain from doing so , lets stop them in their tracks, and maybe these crimes will slow down
