Help - my car needs lowering
« on: 25 April 2006, 09:09 »
Hi all,

my golf mk2 gti 8v needs lowering. I am on quite a tight budget.
I called GSF and they do a gas shock and 40mm spring kit for £155 (plus VAT) which I thought sounded pretty good. Will 40mm be noticeable (bearing in mind over the years my car may have sagged on the standard set-up....and I have been asked whether it has been lowered!!!) GSF said they would do the shockers for £106 so I can get seperate 60mm, but would this be too low for everyday driving????

Please help!!
Cheers, Mike

You wanna speak to Si or joe, they -100 and more if im not mistaken. and im guessing they get stuck on, well, pebbles probably.

the 40mm would be noticable after it has bedded in, and the 60mm more so. Does drive much better with a drop though.

ps. where is Si, he hasnt been round for a while?
Cant afford a sig.....

40mm will defo be noticeable. 60mm would be too much for me

just make sure the kit actually lowers a GTi 40mm and is not just a general 40mm kit for all golfs. otherwise you'll find it'll only lower it 20mm as the GTi is 20mm lower than std ride height golfs

As above. Check the springs lower a GTI by 40mm.

I'd go 40mm.

60mm budget springs would propably give you a very harsh ride.

The GSF kits will lower a base model by 40mm, which works out as -20mm on a GTI and -10mm on a 16v.  The kits are apparently very good for the money as well :)

the bilstein/ventura set up from www.eurocarparts.com is pretty popular on this forum. i had a set myself and it did drop it noticably and stiffened things up nicely too. its about £200 all in so might be worth a look. was a good ride too...

I am also looking to lower my golf,

I am interested in the blistein kit, it says it lowers the car by -40mm.  Mine is a golf gti 8valve, so would it by approx 20mm lower than it is now?

thanks!

It won't scrape the pipe normally, but you are going to have to watch bigger speed bumps etc..
