The general impression of modded cars is that they're expensive to insure and run/maintain as they're non-standard, they have probably been thrashed by whoever owned them and there is often no guarantee of the quality of work done on them. I guess some people just don't want to stand out from the crowd as well.

All this makes it a pretty limited market out there to sell to, plus most people will want their own touch on a car if you go for a modded one

Mine is only very slightly modified....I actually went out to try and find the best one I could for the money I had.

In my experience, the standard examples tended to have more mechanical problems then their modified conterparts......

I would rather go with a modified Golf from someone who knew their stuff than a standard that has been butchered at every opportunity by some jack the lad garage outfit out to con people with no knowledge of cars at all.....After all cosmetic changes can be adapted to suit whereas the engine is what keeps the thing going

My GTI is about to get a full hit! Great base to start with though, 89, Jade LN6V, 1 previous owner, full VAG/sh, ZERO rust, 65k, perfect interior, origional Blaupunkt, even got the origional "MASSINGBERD OF HARROGATE" number plates! and unkerbed BBS alloys.. body has minor dents and scrapes, and the paint looks a little tired, although all origional... only mods will be 15in steels, and a very subtle sus drop, with the new springs re- enamelled in black!
