2nd look...
« on: 19 April 2006, 18:00 »
Right... i have put a deposit down on a 20vT, taking it pending on them sorting out the majority of the bad bodywork. Going to check out what they have done with the bodywork tomorrow night, couple of Questions:

1) anything i should be looking out for engine wise?

2) it has full VW service history to 80000 miles, does this mean the belt will have been changed?

3) if they have not got out all the scratches etc you reckon a good bit of elbow grease on my behalf will help ?

Not sure on the first 2 questions but would ask to see a receipt for the cambelt change -that way you will know its been done, alternatively check the service book to see if that item has been ticked off or call the dealer who did the servicing - they may have records to confirm if the belt was done.

On the scratches, if they are minor and not right through the paint, they should come out, a light cutting paste followed by polish might work.

i take it you have test driven it too........

MAF's and coil packs are prone to failure on the 1.8T's - see if there any receipts for them in the service book and as Mantamad said call the dealer(s) who have serviced the car to ensure the records are accurate.

Cambelt ideally should have been changed although some VW garages and i think the handbook says it only requires it every 120K!!  personally i wouldn't take that chance and certainly get at least £300 knocked off if the cambelt hasn't been changed.  if the cambelt hasn't been changed get it done along with the water pump.

hope that helps a bit
