Would do as Jezza says as sounds like timing is 180 degrees out,  you can swap the plug leads over at the dizzie,  the firing order should be 1.3.4.2.

If it is a 90 mph per hour wind and you drive your car at 90mph downwind, if you stick your head outside would you feel the wind?

ok cylinders are numbered from the left hand side. firing order is 1342. no1 should be connected to the bit on the dizzy cap nearest to pointing to cylinder no1 in a straight line. then in a clockwise direction attach no3 lead to the next post then no4 lead to the next one then finally no2 lead to the last one. im going from memory here and im at work so i may have not got that 100% but in the distant past i have done this and im struggling to remember lol im sure i will be corrected if im wrong! u got a haynes manual??

Take out spark plug #1 (left of engine, nearest timing belt) and turn it over by hand till cylinder #1 is at the top of its travel.  Then remove the dizzy cap and check where the rotor arm is pointing, the rotor arm should be pointing at a notch in the dizzy, which should correspond to spark plug lead #1.  If not the intermediate shaft has moved, its free to spin when the belt is removed.

You can either loosen the timing belt and adjust the intermediate shaft sproket, twist the dizzy till the rotor arm lines up with the notch, or you can move the spark plug wires round so that the arm is pointing to the lead which runs to cylinder #1, then fit the rest of the leads in sequence 1342 clockwise :)

Correction to the above, the cylinders are numbered 1,2,3,4 from the left hand end of the engine looking into the engine!  Also the #1 piston must be at the top of its travel on the 'compression' stroke, the key is knowing when its at the top on the compression stroke rather than the exhaust stroke.

its also just occured to me, my 2.0 8v was apparently running on a 1.8 ecu, however ive never checked this, and i was wondering, will the ecu be different between the 2.0 and 1.8 cos its still got the 2.0 ecu in it, we didnt take the ecu out of the other car, totally forgot about it and scrapped the fooker in
