Air Mass Meter

Hi all,

After having my pride and joy for over 7 years it now starting to play up on me.
Its been on the garage computers with no faults registered and the garage has suggested that it could be the air mass meter.

It also started to drink loads of petrol.
My baby is a VW Mark 2 gti 8V

Can anyone help??? Please. :smiley:

I was told that as well by a garage, turned out to be the blue temp sender. Worth checking first as it's much cheaper than a airflow meter.

See if someone cloase by will do a swap or has a spare before buying another.....unless you can pick it up for buttons on ebay!

my airflow sensor definatley works so if you are near chertsey im happy for you to try mine out first to see if it makes a difference

as said change the temp sender first, and get one from main dealer as ive had a few from gsf which have gone faulty.. the reason this would cause the fuel consuption to go up is due to the cold start not switching off... if it was the air mass meter which is very rare, i can talk you through the steps of testing it and also ways of setting it up to make ur car perform better...

I keep seeing mention of the 'blue temp sender'  :huh: Does the 16v have one and if so where is it? I think there's four senders on the end of the head alone  :undecided: , three of them look the same. My car always smells a bit 'chokey' when ticking over so I wonder if this could be the cold start not switching off properly?

no blue temp sender on a 16v, but there are several temp senders which perform the same functions. All these senders are the same so feel free to mix n match, including the one for the dash gauge :)

Thanks for that info. I suppose as a test I could try each of the three in turn to see if they give the same reading on the temp guage?....... or am I missing something?  :undecided: ..... I'll look into it and see what happens  :smiley:
