PAS fluid
« on: 29 March 2006, 16:38 »
Hi, my PAS fluid is pretty dirty and I need to change it, but..... I've searched the archive and can't find a definitive answer as to which fluid I need to use? :undecided:
Haynes says if post April 89 use G 002 000, mine is August 1990, but on the reservoir cap which is red it says ATF. The only VW handbook I have is for an 88 model which only mentions ATF Dexron.
I've just been to main dealer to pick up some gaskets and asked them and they say 'use what it says on the reservoir'!? But.... the fluid which is in there, which seems to be working fine and not leaking, is a dirty grey with a hint of 'green' rather than 'red' which I think Dexron is.
Lost yet?  I've picked up from some other forums that its safe to use the G 002 000 in place of Dexron ATF but not vice versa........ Can someone please tell me what I should be using?...... Thanks

Early models ONLY use ATF, check a haynes manual or ring vw.
