where have u guys/gals with mk 2 earthed ur amps too if that makes sense, im toying with the idea of making my own holes etc, just wondered where u lot have ur amps earthed(amps fitted in boot)

im using one of the bolts/nutts that holds the rear cluster in place, it touches the body of the car so scrapped paint off a bit n stuck em there

or where the first aid kit usually bolts in. there are places around those locations on both sides.

cheers uys reason i ask is im stillgetting eninge interferance
got power cables down one side
rcas down other side with remote and speaker wires
earth is to the bolt on the lower half of the back seat yet im still getting whinning noises!!

yes possibley. it's down to the poor connection on the actual earth therefore the signal trys to find other routes to earth and goes down the wrong parts of the unit. Sometimes get so bad it burns out the earth tracks on your RCA connections. :(

am i right in thinkin that the black wire on the mk loom is earth??, could i cut into this and use the earth block vw kindly put under the steering wheel??

If it is the earth block then yeah you could use that  :smiley:

I drilled a hole in my wheel well and dremmeled the paint away and then stuck a big bolt with washers either side for my earth point. I'm using the standard earth and power cable for the headunit and at the moment use a Passat battery to chassis to engine earth cable + fixings which are about to be upgraded to 0g cable from chassis to battery and 2g from engine direct to battery as well, oh and I get no noise  :wink:  :grin:

Also check you have a good battery to chassis earth.

cheers js was looking at the earth that sits just behind the battery tray and its looking well corroded, not a good sign
