It may have a little rust here and there, and no gear box at the moment but its only a weekend car, its for fun....  Cant have much fun in a barge.....  Do you rent it out for holiday excursions?  You could make back the money you loose in the car...   ;)

Well i have both and my verdict is, I am glad i have got the Mk2 as the everyday car, too much stuff goes wrong on the Mk1, and it rusts and also not sure how I would fair in a crash compared to the Mk2. Also my Mk2 seems to handle better (Raceland kit on Mk2 and Boge kit and lower brace bar on Mk1), Although probably not a great deal in it to be honest.

I have got to do a lot of work on th Mk1 to get to a happy stage on it, like get the brakes improved but all in all i am glad I am not owning a Boeing Mk3 Gti/VR6 747 ;)

Yes your right MR VR6 Kid...  It mayewll belong in a museum but it does work on the road...  You've seen the old old b reg red busses in London, if they can drive so can I...  and dont forget where you roots are boy....  There would be no VR6 if it wasnt for the GTI....  As for a MK1 in a crash...  No way would you be alive if you were doing over 40mph...  Ben had a crash in his D-reg GTI, the copper informed him the d-reg golf was the first car to introduce the "Crumple Zone" do if you have a d-reg + your fine, if not, like myself, make sure its as quick and painless as possible, thats Y I go a little faster than most....  Helps haveing a stupidly quick car... ;D
