duplicate service handbooks
« on: 28 February 2006, 19:45 »
Hi peeps, Anyone know anything about duplicate service handbooks. Where are they obtained and is it illegal to enter false information into them? Ive just bought a nice TDI but am becoming slightly suss so I need to get peace of mind. Gonna phone my local dealer tommorow to see if their service records match the records on the duplicate. Your comments would be appreciated. Cheers- Jonno

I would imagine that if the service history is false then it would be illegal :undecided:, you can buy service books on ebay.  If it is all listed as VW history then your dealer will be able to reveal the truth if your nice to him, let me know how you get on and I'll try to help you out if you have no luck

Re: service history forging, Not sure if the old bill could be bothered but if you sell a vehicle on with a fake history then it would probably be frowned upon. I've seen loads of service books on ebay for anything upto twenty quid a pop!

Any UK dealer can tap you car details into their system and will tell in sceonds if a history is made up.

If you PM me your reg, i'll tap it into the VW system and tell you when and where it was serviced.

thats right vw main but if u get a load of made up stamps it will only tell u on the system where it was last stamped and not before that so basically the guy witht he dodgy service book can quite easily get upto 60,000 stamped with a fake stamp or just ask one of vw to do it on the side and they hardly decline and then book your car in for a 70,000 mile service i.e oil change which would be entered into the sytem so then when it coems to sellign the dealers can only check the last stamp and non before that if u see what i mean

Yah I see. But what i mean is if the car had genuine service history with all work being done at dealership then the records should be stored and not be altered in any way. Only the top people can alter the database not your average worker who you slip a £20 note to. So therefore if the last recorded service on their database was done at say 96,000 miles then the 56000 showing on clock will be wrong, and i would know it has been clocked. However if it atches then great! Ive pm'ed "Volksawagon Main Dealer" on here with the reg so he can tap it in and see what it says.
