Check engine light
« on: 24 February 2006, 23:09 »
Hi i got my mk4 golf check engine light reseted today via a diagnostic machine , it has been fine all day after a number of start ups but when i connected my new vw gamma stereo which i bought  the check light has come back up again  I dont understand why the stereo has caused it to come on?? also when the guy connected my car on a snap on diagnostic machine he said my MAF sensor will need replacing as its coming up faulty and can the faulty MAF sensor cause the engine oil to sludge around the oil filler cap as i did a oil change today and the oil seems sludge free its only around the oil filler cap.

'White Sludge', or 'mayonnaise' as I like to call it, around the filler cap means only one thing..... Water in your oil! Could just be condensation, or worse, the head gasket's gone.

The guy i bought the car off had it parked up for 3 months due to sum1 smashing all his windows and stealing his alloys , but thers no oil in the water as ive checked and no sign of water when i drained out the oil its jus white sludge around the oil filler cap and in breather pipe.
