With the filter off turn the engine and se if any fuel squirts out the pipe, if it doesnt you know there is a problem. may be a case of replacing the fuel lines. But check if your fuel pump is working first.

try turning your ignition on if your fuel pump makes a funny noise means it under preesure and you  might need to replace your fuel pump.

Take the rubber pipe off the metering unit, lift the flap and stick a piece of card between the flap and the housing to hold the flap up about 5mm. Crank the engine with the throttle floored, is should fire then stall due to it flooding. Remove cardboard, refit pipe (make sure it's on all the way round) and crank again on full throttle untill it starts. Steve's way to bleed Kjet systems double quick  ;)

when the engine is cranked and then stopped, listen for the fuel pump running on for a second or so (know a few people whove had problems with relay) there are two fuel pumps on some mk1's and only one on others, (one with two has a lift pump situated in tank) unusual for a pump to just stop though but anything has got to be worth a try.
Good luck!
