i loved the petrol but im feeling the lightness of my wallet now and i am constantly looking at the trip computer :(

but the diesels i saw were all 5 door with stupid miles on them... that silver one sounds good if it has a reasonable mileage, i just wasnt prepared to compromise on the 3 dorrs and low miles to get a more economical car...

maybe in a couple of years ill look for a TDI anni model... or just go for the MK5...

but at the mo i love the petrol... but so does my car!.... and like the other guy said, its cold days... i average 24 miles to the gallon on the short trip to work... i should really walk but its bloody freezing and i like staying in bed 40mins longer!

Oh well my gti 180 has just bn collected! I know what you mean. Your constantly aware of the trip and mpg!! I tried putting it on miles display but always found myself putting it back to mpg! And I know exactly what u mean about the wallet getting lighter, for me the card getting worn!
Just gonna wait till i find the right TDi. 90% as you say have done 80,000+ miles so Im looking between the 30-70k mark in black.

The 180 petrol must be a fair be thirstier than the 150. Over the summer, when I had some length motorway mileage in my driving, my gti turbo averaged 42mpg over 2000 miles (also included town stuff)

Cold start completely screws petrols - the same commute to work is 34 now, instead of 38 in summer (its only 6 miles) Diesels don't seem to have the same problem.

I like my GTI.  Its a 1.8 20v (without the turbo). Only 125bhp, 0-60 in under 9s according to the book.... but mine's really loosened up recently (done 85K miles) and seems to fly now.  Still get over 40mpg on motorway runs (not taking it easy ).

If you want a reasonably quick car with fairly cheap insurance (I pay just over 400 squid fully comp - 25yo, 4yrs ncb), then it might be worth a look. Only prob is that the non-turbo 1.8 went out of production a wee while back, so its likely to be a high miler.

Good luck matey.
