Air leak problem hopefully solved.................
« on: 26 December 2005, 11:21 »
After fiddling about in the engine bay for a while this morning I think I have solved my air leak problem..........fingers crossed.........

The MFA has been giving bizarre readings for a while and I was told on here that the vacuum pipe may have become detached, giving weird readings and creating idle problems.

Found the pipe in question this morning and it had become detached, but with concerning aspect........

The plastic vacuum pipe had a small piece of rubber pipe on it to attach to the relevant area coming off the throttle body. The small piece of rubber pipe has a nice clean split in one end, which eventually resulted in it detaching itself......IMHO the split looks to have been cut with a knife so it was inevitable that it would detach at some point. My guess is that one of the garages I have taken it to "created" this problem for me. The split pipe has obviously taken it's time to fall off, but when it did the engine started running a bit dodgy. Luckily for my wallet, I decided to try and solve the problem myself.....

Shame my camera's a bit crap as a picture would show the split - it's far too clean and long to have done it itself over time............

There are some dodgy garages in Northampton that's for sure!
