Mine usually needs a little top up before service is due every 10k, but no more than 1/4 of a litre like Gaz said.

I have heard that they do tend to burn a bit of oil when they are getting "run in" but that seems a bit much to me

I have the same problem with my car. Typically it gets oil every 2000 miles are there abouts. Mine is the 2.0 GTI. There is no leaks and my dealer says its normal!!! I am abit sick of seeing my oil light to be honest!ÂÂÂ
P.S Stu - 1.8T your car is stunning. Its the same in every way to mine only mine is of the non turbo variety... you have excellent taste!

My 2.0 8v GTi MK4 uses a litre every 800 - 1200 miles... No leaks and no signs of smoke. The main dealer says this is 'normal'?
