TCR to ED50…?
« on: 20 April 2026, 13:25 »
Wanted to get some thoughts from people on this rather than derail the ED50 thread :)

So, I currently have a TCR from new. Still low mileage ~25k, paid up and doesn’t seem to loose much money.

Part of me would like to switch to the ED50 but it’s a big step in price with no real discounts at the moment.

I think (need to check date) my all in service will end soon as I think you can only extend until a certain age, so would rather not end up with a large bill.

Both seem to be limited run rather than limited numbers and I really like the fact I have only ever seen about 3 other TCR’s since I got mine!

I love the Pure Grey color (not too keen on Moonstone). ED50 green looks nice but not sure if novelty would wear off, Tornado Red looks great but not sure if it’s for me, which leaves black (maintenance) and white (shame not Oryx).

No heated front screen is a shame as use that quite a bit, but seats look nicer (not sure if comfier).

Anyway… @Watts mentioned the move to CS was an improvement in ride. Looking for some thoughts either way to help make a decision :)

Dark green is a horrific thing to try and keep clean... as bad if not worse than black! Just giving your my experience!

Red fades (always)

Oryz is hard to deal with paint repairs (again based on experience of pearl white cars)

Put it like this. You're TCR might be worth £25K or £30K at a push.

You can drive it around with £25K cash on the drivers seat to do with what you wish or drive an ED50 with nothing on the drivers seat. Because that's the difference in price. The TCR won't lose much value either and you won't be paying luxury tax either.

My situation is similar my ED45 may be worth £30K ish and the ED50 is gonna cost me £53K. No way is it worth the extra. And I still haven't got over that LCD screen it just looks like an add on.

I snagged a great deal on the TCR so “only” paid circa £35k, so its been great from that perspective.

If there was an equivalent (Golf R for example i think is around 8k discount currently and CS around 6.5k) it would make it a lot easier.

Problem is by the time I have added what I would want I would be approaching mid 50’s.

Surely there will be discounts soon… or maybe not…?

As seen in the other thread, it doesn’t hide the dirt that’s for sure

Personally, If I already had a well looked after and paid for TCR in a colour you love as my daily and practical everyday car, I would buy a more extreme used weekend car. 25k miles is nothing. You could easily run it years to come. 286 vs 321 BHP in normal driving in FWD won't be a leap in performance. You really need to get onto a track. I asked my Sales Rep that my warranty won't be voided using this track focused hardcore Edition 50 at track days as intended, right. 'I'll circle back to you sir'.

I love sports cars, so Cayman, Alpine A110, F-Type. For coupes, You could also look at the c63 v8 w204 and w205, incredible sound!

If it's a single car, and you're okay with the depreciation, get the Edition 50. Likely the last of its kind.

If the 2.5 Golf R comes out for next year, that's another option. Then again, Autocar just reported last week, Audi's board have yet to decide on the 2.5's future, and could add hybrid to make it Euro 7 compliant, in which case they're defo not giving it to VW.

Agreed. I have seen first hand MK5 GTI Edition 30's and early MK7 GTI's in tornado red and they look as good as the day they left the factory. Obviously those cars were cherished but even a neglected car should hold up well. Modern paints and clearcoats shouldn't fade or flake like some old 1990's Toyota.
MK8.5 GTI Clubsport. Moonstone grey. Queenstown 19’s. DCC. Harmon Kardon sound. Pano roof.

I start this thread and then get a flat tyre. The TCR sensed me looking at getting an ED50
