Gti 8.5
« on: 05 March 2026, 19:23 »
Hi All,

So since owning the car,  bought early December, a used ex VW owned vehicle, registered april 2025 with 4k on the clock,  I have had a few software related issues, the usual bongs etc which others have also had/shared.

But this is a new one and over the last few weeks or so, and strangely its happened in exactly the same supermarket car park at least three times on my way home from a 30-40 minute commute, so surely must be related to something there!

When I returned to the car this evening and on startup, the revs drop and the engine feels like its going to cut out, Coughs and splutters a bit and then this time it stalled! So started her up again and same again!!   No bongs or yellow warnings!
So I turned ignition off, got out, locked car, opened the car, started up again and all fine.  No warning bongs or anything.

Tried to re inact once I got home about 10 minutes later, but everything appeared normal and idling fine.

I'm guessing or hoping this is again VW software glitch, just seems odd it's happened in the same place all times.

When it happened a few weeks ago, I had the usual yellow bongs together with it, "travel assist not available",  "front assist restricted" and a few others.

Anyone had this where car just stalls after starting up?

I will run it down to vw as under warranty still, but probably likely have to wait a month to get booked in with a courtesy car!

Unlikely to be your problem if your mileage is relatively low. But the only experience I’ve had of a similar situation is in one of my old Mk6 GTIs, obviously there was not the same warning bongs, but in my case it was the fuel filter (near the tank), which incidentally only appeared to happen at home on my driveway, and only after it had been driven and then tried to start while it was still warm, it would start just fine if I didn’t start it back up straight away, or if it was a cold start in the morning or after work, changed the filter and all was good. I started a thread about it on one of the mk6 forums, but can’t find it right now so I’m struggling to remember the details as it was a while back.

Same again today but different place, it seems to be after I have been driving it then stop somewhere and then restart the it!  Anyway this time I got 4 yellow ⚠️ bongs as before.

⚠️ Error: drive system. Please visit workshop
⚠️ Error: ACC
⚠️ Error: Start/Stop
⚠️ Travel assist currently unavailable

Anyway car runs fine, got home restarted and the errors disappeared.

Called VW anyway and 22nd April before they can book me in.  Probably best if I get it recovered,  honestly!

I did wonder if it could be battery related.   Did you visit a dealer at all for a diagnosis?
