True Joe, I've try to see another edition 50 here in Cork as of yet. Best of luck with it anyway. I've 2k up on mine, going to swap out the potenza race at the weekend.

How are you finding the car overall? Any niggles? Are you finding that the race tyres are a bit "sub optimal" as the autumn/winter kicks in?

Definitely the race tyres are great but as the weather gets worse you can definitely feel it, and with the price of them (300 euro a corner special order with local tyre company) I feel like the swap for  the Michelin sport 4 for the winter would be good alternative and swap back ok the race tyres come May as weather improves.
Over all car is great I have to admit it really does feel special and the grip is outstanding. I feel bad for using it as a daily in an ideal world it's nearly too good for that and a second motor to daily would be great.

Very nice!
I do pretty low mileage in the GTI, as we tend to use my wife's car for most of the daily duties.

Make sure you get someone competent to swap the tyres off. Last thing you want it a marked wheel.

Congratulations CookieMonster, good call and nice spec!

If you’re going to wait until Jan Joe, I suspect you might get even better deals if you don’t mind the spec much.

Initials random thoughts:

- The ride in comfort with PP is reasonable compliant. Tyre pressure recommendation is 44 PSI, 40 ish PSI likely to further improve compliance. Sports mode on anything other than a flat road is mostly a no go for me. Can’t test special properly due to do engine break in process.

- The car is a stunner and you often look back at it.

- Engine break in process is of course very dull. You can feel there is much more beyond 4000 RPM once allowed. Surprisingly/sadly, you get use to the performance under 4k RPM very quickly.

- Shortcuts are key for ease of use - stop start and ADAS added to top row and then you’re off.

- IOS 26 Update has forced google maps navigation inside the left hand view dial and I can’t turn it off. Anyone had better luck?

- 12v battery in these new cars are nuts. Within 10 secs of getting in I get the 12v battery is depleted error message. So I have to turn on the engine and let it idle whilst I belt up, connect phone, turn off ADAS. Perhaps I need a battery charger.

- Best MGP is 38 on a 2/3 hour motorway trip.

- Potenza Race Tyres are very good, but making me nervous as poorer weather is coming around. Initially I was going to get an OEM winter 18s alloys and tyre set, but it’s a bit dear for now. So considering leaving the 19s one but swapping for a winter set or cross climate sport 3 set. What’s the weather like where you are in the winter Donster to run pilot sport 4S for winter?

Mine is a factory order, so the spec is in stone at this stage, as is the price!

44 is crazy high, 40 PSI is even too high in my opinion! The car must drive like its on solid wheels at that pressure! I think 35-36-ish would be more like it. Most tyre fitters tend to default to mid-30's PSI in my experience.
VW bump it up to 40+ for emissions regulations, its nothing to do with optimising the car's setup. Volkswizard's latest video talks about this.

This shouldn't be anything to do with an iOS update. You just need to configure what views/screens are visible on the main dashboard screen by using the VIEW and arrow buttons on the steering wheel. There's loads of various options.

Yep, these cars hate sitting at idle, or worse, sitting unlocked or with the ignition on (but not engine started). The 12V battery warning tends to pop up very quickly. Also, you may find that if this happens, the infotainment screen has a bit of a "moment" and can get stuck on "Loading settings" for several minutes on your next startup. All part of the MK8 Golf experience I'm afraid

Both Donster and I are in Ireland... the winter weather tends to be very wet. Generally very little snow or freezing conditions, they'd be a fairly rare exception. Michelin PS4S's would be a very popular all-year-round choice here on performance cars. I believe Pirelli's PZ6 and Continental's SC7's are considered as good, or even better perhaps.

There is currently 27 Ed50s on autotrader (the most so far), plus at least three 2nd hand ones in specialist dealers.  I reckon the majority of enthusiasts are now sorted, having received theirs or are awaiting their delivery.  Discounts seem to be slowly creeping in, I wonder if VW will offer any deposit contributions.  If not, there could be a lot of unsold cars?

It’ll likely go the same way as the Ed40.
VW steadfast in no finance incentives until they get to the point where they’ve allocated their unsold units to dealers and get them to pre-reg them after the 3 month “showroom car” tax fiddle is up.
Maybe a quick promotion during the quiet zone around Xmas & New Year(?) for locked in cars.
Next year it’ll be a case of GTI 50 is old news and looking at anniversary Golf R’s as it’s all about shifting metal from the factory and glossy social media advertising basically to keep the company afloat.
With fuel prices staying high there’ll be far more focus on EV’s with the ID. GTI’s coming on stream as easy sellers

I agree.

However I really can't see the Id GTI selling tbh Cupra VZ is a way better looking car imo.

No ID3 should wear the GTI badge imo

@davo they’ll chuck a load of ID.3 GTI’s out on leases along with a campaign of glossy advertising.

I have zero issues with the choice of propulsion, I don’t mind the styling and they’re a handy sized car. However the fact they weigh two tons and are rear motor driven rankles me somewhat wearing a GTI badge, unlike them using a GTX badge which felt more apt. But I get why they did it.

Available in Tornado Red though, just like an Ed50 😁
