I followed an ED50 last week - the first I’d seen in the metal. It was Dark Moss Green with 19” Queenstown alloys with red tinted lacquer. I must say I was a little underwhelmed by the Moss Green paint; maybe because it was a dull, overcast day so didn’t show off the colour to its best advantage. I dare say it looks great on a bright sunny day though .

Well, I finally caved and have an ED50 inbound to replace my TCR.

Admit to still not wanting to see the back of the TCR but looking forwards to the ED50. After 7 years it’s the longest car I have owned but made the choice to get a newer one easy.

Already booked in for a ceramic coating. More to follow!

Congrats CookieMonster

Congratulations! I've found my CS to be better than my TCR in many ways, apart from all the annoying nannying stuff to be switched off at every drive, so I'm sure you'll love the 50!

Thanks!

Dark Moss Green, pan roof, performance pack, black Warmenau’s, area view and HK.

I know pan roof is marmite but I really like the light it lets in. Wanted the alcantara wheel but already spending enough and not sure if it will last as well as leather. The green to the point above looks amazing in the sun but less so in dull light so hope I don’t regret it as love pure gray on the TCR.

Thanks, great to hear!

Will miss a few things I am sure but expect it is outweighed by the updated overall package. I did nearly go for the CS. On many levels it makes more sense. But there I am

That’s a pretty perfect spec and just like the TCR (in grey) it’ll hold its value the best so hopefully another keeper in a unique colour that’ll remain ultra desirable to enthusiasts and, more importantly, give the owner a sense of satisfaction.

Was it a pre-specced car or did you spec it yourself? There can’t be many unspecced (is that even a word?) build slots left now I’d imagine.

As a previous TCR owner myself I can assure you it’s MUCH more responsive to drive at normal speeds but I can’t vouch for the ride in PP trim but I bet it’s no worse.

I’ve not seen many reviews or piccies of you guys are your Edition 50’s what you expected better / worse / indifferent? I see there are a few for sale on Autotrader that are sitting around. Mid to top £50k for a golf now is a lot of money and when I think I bought my 45 fully loaded without leather for £42k there’s almost a difference of £13k over that period of five years to the 50. I would love one but just still pondering cautiously at the moment.

I popped into my local(ish) dealer today as Autotrader showed they had a TR in the showroom. And indeed they did. Looked fabulous! Odd spec in my mind though, no PP but it had leather.

I think I now have a new definition of insanity. Those who order an Ed50 but NOT in TR

The only choice imo

Most colour choices now on 8.5 Gti's now are pretty dull imo same as most new cars any colour grey you want or black and white is all it seems ( no offence 😂) had a black golf once never again looks great until you drive it once after wash.

Dark moss green is now available to order on a regular Clubsport here in Ireland at least. Not such an exclusive/special colour after all.

Pretty typical of VW these days, as I see Lapiz blue everywhere now, 99% of the time is an R-Line rather than an R.
